Why does a bronze medal give more satisfaction than silver?

"an empty mind + a filled stomach":- Philosophers say the combo can prove to be the most deadly for a human being. I m proud to tell you that I have both.. "a jobless mind + a stomach being fed by a perfect maid"..!!! So here I am with another deadly post. :) (take this as the "hugest" grin you have ever seen).

Now-a-days I m busy following the XIX Common Wealth Games being held in Delhi. India is doing really very well consolidating it's second position by winning gold medals at regular intervals. Not only gold but India has won many silver and bronze medals too.

One day while watching CWG I was thinking about the same.. the gold, the silver and the bronze medals.. but EUREKA..!!! I discovered a point about which I never thought in the past. The point was.. "a bronze medalist feels much more satisified than the one winning silver". See, the fact is true that silver goes for first runner up and bronze goes to the second but there's another fact linked to it too.. silver medalist has just lost his last bout whereas the bronze medalist came out victorious in his last match..!

Winning and getting laurels is good to cherish but losing and getting a medal is really very painful.. It's just like India has already won the series against Australia 2-0 but they were given the cup after the third and final test when Aussies squeezed them with a win by an innings and 200 runs..! (ofcourse that has never happened and I made that up.. :P .. but think how painful it can be.)

Taking another example of a recent boxing match. In the final the silver medalist lost to the gold medalist by a score of 11-1. The bronze medalist, on the other hand, won his bronze medal match by 5-2. The expression that the bronze medalist gave to the silver medalist, during the medal ceremony, was like, "come have a re-match sucka.. m gonna knock u out this time..!!" :-/

Why not include the Indian Hockey show in CWG.. Won against England by penalty shoot out (5-4) but lost to Australia 8-0..! The hearts of English players might be jumping and shouting at top of their voices.. "He he..!! U suck fella..!! We could have done better..!!"

I never knew the jobless mind sometimes becomes pretty reasonable.. :P

Cricket has always been an obsession of every Indian and I am no exception. There was a time when everyone made their own world XI team and claimed their's as the best. Be it Don Bradman or Suneel Gavaskar, all were upto it. ESPN (the sports channel) even started a program on it named "Super Selector" and allowed every Indian to make there own playing XI.

Why does it always rain on me...

No.. no.. m not writing this post to discuss the song "why does it always rain on me" by Travis. Actually here I m expressing my anger against the Indian education system which has always been unfair towards me, hence the title.. :P

I was promoted to class 10th and was really very very enthusiastic to give my first ever board examination, when the first time education system went on with its deplorable act. It changed the entire course..!! All previous year papers, study material, even the social science books became obsolete. All we could do was to fire arrows in the dark. Khair, I managed to score some decent score in subjects and passed with a decent percentage. I m proud to say that our batch made the way to glory, a bit more clear for our juniors.

On entering class 12th I was happy that I ditched fate and this time there was no course change in our curriculum. But Hala-Lu-ya.. fate had decided something else..!! The entire IIT entrance examination pattern was changed.. to add some more salt to wounds it was made a fuckin 6 hrs examination..!! Man.. who the hell can bear so much pressure for so many hours.. I was surprised to see some fuckin crappy pattern questions like :- match the following, more than one correct answer questions and blah blah blah..

Khair I dropped a year and showed guts to prepare for such an examination. Fate didn't like it either. The next year pattern was changed again.. and this time the duration of test was reduced to two three hours paper and questions of basic level. What the hell..!! I prepared a whole year how to solve some ass kicking questions and at the end what m I getting..?? Khair, never a bead of liquid showed on my forehead and I went on to face life.

As I got admission in JSS I knew beforehand some mishappening would take place..!! Hala-Lu-ya.. I was right..!! Placements in third year got prohibited.. it meant all companies will recruit only the fourth year chaps..!! A placement in third year itself gives a student a wide span of things to try in his final year of course. By wide span I m indicating towards the preparation for post-graduation or honing some specific skills to get into some big industries.

I thought it was enough. Nothing more could happen, but fate again accepted my challenge and this time brutally kicked my ass off. The final result of engineering included 25% marks of first year, 50% marks of second, 75 % of third and 100% of the final. But UPTU suddenly (or I should say "deliberately".. :-/ ) changed its mind and made the final year comprise of each year's 100% marks. My second year's massti will always pay me dearly.. :( It has alone brought my overall percentage to new lowers level.

To add some salt to my wound fate played its chance again. Some new IITs and NITs have got opened.. state quota in AIEEE exam has been abolished.. students securing 24K rank in AIEEE exam are getting insti, what I couldn't get at 9K..!! The onsite counselling which was the greatest pain of my ass just got eradicated.. you need just an internet connection at your home to select your insti.

My father always says to me "Beta sona jitna tapta hai utna aur chamakta hai".. I tell him then.. "Aur kitna tapu.. ab to me light bhi marne laga hu daddy..!!".. :D

3rd year @ JSS

With the end of cool summer vacations I entered into the third year of my college life.
At the very first G.I.N.G.E.R got a shock.. it got dispersed. Samarpit and Prashant went away to live in a "70K" flat.. with three balconies ofcourse.. :p.. Sid went away, after being my roomie for two long years, to another flat.. not that luxurious though :D. The left ones in the hostel were me, Aviral and the three Bhasadis (Ashu, Chacha, Shubham). Khair life went on with a steady start.

I became a hell lot technical. I donno from where I got that vibe but I did start coding..!! It all started with Google Code Jam 2009 and went on to Sphere Online Judge (SPOJ) and finally to Topcoder. Wow..!! I never thought of becoming something like that.. phew.!! Never mind..

Commencement of such technical stuff never meant an end to our parties. A night out at Sam's flat was a rememberable one. I tell you, dancing and singing at the 13th floor really rocks..!! After the fifth sem examination the whole Ginger group reunited for a grand meet at Auto Expo '10. Not only cars but ladies took away our hearts too.. ;)

Didn't have all my friends on my b'day this time but surely not missed the "GPL".. Nibble came up with one more feather in its cap, as Zealicon 2010 was a great success. It became the first "techno-cult" fest in history of JSS. Bought a "Zealicon tagged" T-shirt for its remembrance.
By my surprise, it was not my "bhasadi" group that took me for a trip but it was a bunch of technos.. named "Nibblites"..!! Went to Lancedown (a hill station in Uttaranchal). Puked two times during the journey yet it was rememberable. Hanuman temple.. scenic beauty.. Bhalla Lake.. tracking expedition.. abondoned church.. three gals ;).. tip-in-point.. Tadkeshwar Mandir.. overall a nice trip.

Prateek and I went to AKG's fest Trishna.. Coding event sucked..!! Anyways, the old history repeated itself.. we didn't win, but this time, we were a bit satisfied with our performance. Afterall coding for so many months paid..!!

Sixth sem exams came and gone as a wind.. yaa a hot-hot wind.. :(.. Last Ginger meet of the sem happened on 31st May as my b'day treat.. ya, I gave the treat after three long months.. :P.. It happens when all your friends become hell a lot career conscious and start studying.. :P
Khair 3rd yr is over.. Now, waiting for summers 2010.. some hectic days are about to come..

Lucknow-- A place where I have passed around 18 precious years of my life. 18 years..!! I still remember how bad I felt when I had to leave this beautiful City of Gardens, for graduation.

Right from my childhood days, there was never a moment when I regretted being in this city. I enjoyed thoroughly, and now when I reach the Station, I stretch my arms and inhale the air.. I smell my childhood days.. I smell fragrance of friendship and love suffused in the environment.

I still remember our visit to nimbu and haathi park.. our visit to Imambara.. I still remember the numerous films I saw with my friends, together wandering on the roads of Hazrat Ganj.
I still remember wo Indralok colony.. officers club.. St. Thomas.. Lucknow Public School.. wo Aashiana Colony.. TriVaAg.. Gandhi Bhawan.. Sahara Ganj.. Gomti Nagar.. Imambara.. wo dost.. wo Wadhwa Bakers ka hotdog.. wo mera pehla accident.. wo peeli waali bus.. wo ped.. wo park.. wo hawa.. wo sama..!!

Can never in my life forget this city where I passed the first 18 yrs of my life.. loved being here..!!

It was class fourth when I was introduced to this arena of bloodshed and mind you from then never has a time come when I got bored from this game. It was then when I realised what does phrase "being a man" mean..

I still remember how the glass broke and Stone Cold entered making the whole crowd go insane.. I still remember how the darkness fall and undertaker was found on the stage making the opponent plead for life.. I still remember the malevolent gaze of Triple H.. the suppressed smile running over Kane's face.. the arena teemed with 30 wrestlers in "King of the Ring".. the bloody Shawn Michael.. the beast Batista.. beautiful gals quibbling over their small issues.. and finally the "smell" of what "the Rock is cooking"..

The starting muzzik, the divas, the blood, the aggression, I miss all of them.. WWE was once an integral part of my life.. Hope I can start all over again soon.. :)

To sis on her b'day

Hey sis,

Do you know which one is my favourite photograph.. its the one in which you are making me drink water from a bottle, when we were small (remember?).
Fighting together, laughing together, crying together, playing together.. we both are grown ups today. Its harsh to say, but ya, our lives are at different tracks now, we wouldn't be able to meet together as we did in the first 19 years of our lives. But remember oh my dear-o-dear sis, this brother of yours, forgetting all his "smartness" and "stardom" like stature :p, will be present at your service anytime you need.

The most emabarassing moment of my life...

This happened while I was on my way to home from Delhi. I and my friend Prateek boarded a train to Lucknow. Compartment was AC so all windows were closed. (You will understand at last why I have included this line).
Earlier we were just two in the compartment when two ladies joined us. Journey gets really smooth when you are accompanied by some nice women around.
Boys are in a habit of talking aloud and high fiving each other when they have some ladies around.. to impress them or to woo them.. (I m not really sure why, but we do..) and we were no exceptions. Talking aloud we did the following conversation...

• P--> Prateek
• V--> Vaibhav (i.e. me)
• M--> My fcking mind
• L--> Lady (after she spoke no one else did..)
  

A lady sitting besides me was looking a bit interested in what we were talking:

• P: We have really done a lot this sem.. right??
• M: Ya fcker..!! I have just come up after screwing my exams.. nevermind there are ladies around..
• V: Yaa, really too much.
• P: I mean we have begun coding..!! wow..!!
• M: Trying to impress women? Lets see who wins.. come on..!!
• V: Yaah I never knew I'll beat you in TopCoder some day.. phew..
• M: Yeah 1-0..
• P: Arrey never mind I'll cope up soon.. it all started with Google Code Jam..
• M: Uff he'll score now.. I was beaten there.. change the topic.. change the topic..
• V: Yaah and then we met Shalin Sir.. wow.. what a geek..
• P: Yaah we were so nervous that time.. ha ha.. (and he high fived)..!!
• M: Shit man why didn't I get the idea about high fiving..!!
• M: BTW why isn't the lady saying anything?? She is just watching us.. damn.. isn't she interested.. come on..!! break the ice..
• P: Lets hope we do a lot better in the next sem..
• M: Huh.. hope so.. otherwise we'll startup a "chai ki dukaan" soon..
• V: Yaah hope so..
• P: Chal yaar I m feeling tired.. gonna sleep..
• M: What?? weren't you competing.. come on..and why isn't this lady saying anything.. break the ice.. plzz..
  

A while later when prateek was about to climb up:

• L: But I will not be able to sleep tonight..
• M: What?? O my God.. she is speaking gold..!! wow.. some deadly lines are about to come.. why won't she be able to sleep?? M I too sexy for her.. m gonna win.. m gonna win.. say it.. say it........
• V: Why so?
• L: Your socks are too smelly...
  

I... was dead.. even Prateek threw away his socks..

Anniversary of my Blog..!!

Starting at a serious note.. its my blog's anniversary.. so kindly stand up and clap for me, for regularly writing for a year.. :D

It was 23rd January 2009, when I wrote my first post and from then I have never stopped. Writing about 24 poems, 9 articles, 4 letters and manyother weird posts, this blog survived a year. Hope this carries on and I successfully keep frightening my readers(I know there are'nt many) with my writeups. ;)

Being a good writer(as I suppose myself to be) posting in this blog has always been a pleasure for me. My poems(genuinally mine!!) are my priced possessions. I love them as hell, no matter how much hillarious they might appear to you.

So, resting the celebration of my blog's anniversary, I cut my blah blah.. And yeah thanks for the "standing applause" you gave, I loved it.. :p

Sitting on the roof top,
hanging my legs in air,
